"Wolverine and Deadpool will star a dog dubbed Britain's ugliest canine, according to Ryan Reynolds."
Dogpool, a canine friend of the wisecracking vigilante Deadpool, will make an appearance in the highly anticipated sequel this summer. Ryan Reynolds recently shared some behind-the-scenes information about the dog who brings Dogpool to life.
"Her actual name is Peggy, and she won Britain's Ugliest Dog award," Reynolds revealed to Empire Magazine during an interview. "I was really into the idea of having her as Dogpool because she seemed like the canine version of Deadpool's alter ego, Wade Wilson."
First introduced in a 2010 Marvel comic book, Reynolds explained that Dogpool was initially a minor character that gained traction throughout production on "Deadpool & Wolverine." "It was one of those things that you just listen to the movie more, and Dogpool ended up being a crucial part of it."
Peggy gained her title as Britain's Ugliest Dog in January 2023, according to the BBC. This four-legged marvel is thought to be a mix between a Pug and a Chinese Crested dog, also known as a "Pugese." She's from Leven, close to Hornsea in East Yorkshire, and boasts her own "Dogpool" Instagram page. A sneak peek of her in the upcoming film was even shared on Reynolds' Instagram in December last year.
"It's love at first sight," Reynolds remarked about the bond between his character Deadpool and the pup. "Deadpool is smitten with Dogpool."
