Taylor Swift's collaboration with Ethan Hawke in her "Fortnight" music video falls short of expectations for Hawke's Swiftie fans.
Hawke's daughters, Clementine (15) and Indiana (12), felt major disappointment when they learned about their dad's cameo in Taylor Swift's music video. The actor, known for "Dead Poets Society," shared on "The Late Show" that they thought Swift picked the wrong Hawke.
He joked, "My daughters' reaction was, 'Don't listen to my dad, he's an idiot. You should've called me."
The 50-year-old actor made a cameo in Swift's latest album's lead single "Fortnight" along with his "Dead Poets" co-star, Josh Charles.
Hawke considered his daughters' perspective, acknowledging they're die-hard Swift fans and said, "Taylor belongs to them. I can't take that away from them."
In spite of this, Hawke enjoyed the secrecy surrounding his involvement in the video. He and Josh Charles were spotted at the airport wearing "Eras Tour" merch, but they kept their involvement under wraps until they met Swift.
"We had a secret," he said with a laugh. "We were going to meet the queen ourselves."
"Fortnight," featuring Post Malone, has held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks since its debut.
Filming the video was a blast for Hawke and Charles. "We laughed the entire day," he shared with Stephen Colbert. "We felt like the biggest rock stars in the world."
